Are there any caffine free energy drinks in the UK?

April 17th, 2012 · Sports Supplements

In the USA i’ve seen a couple and i think there is a supplement called "charge it" which you can add to your drink to give you a boost throughout the day. I’m very active and don’t like all these ingredients i keep finding out about on the energy and sports drinks i sometimes use.

Any advice would be great :)

Thanks.

Do people still eat a FEW carbs while following a low-carb, high-protein diet?

March 31st, 2012 · Dietary Supplements

And what constitutes "carbs" in this sort of diet (as far as vegetables & fruit go)? I’ve heard of people eating beans (high protein), but aren’t they more of a starch?

And if people DO eat a few carbs, how much?
I’ve also heard that giving yourself one (or even two, if you want to push it) cheat day a week helps. You consume whatever you want to, but your body doesn’t absorb the junk you eat because it’s still on the "dieting" part of processing. And then the next day you go back to your normal eating habits to continue the cycle…

Does anyone have experience with homemade rat diets?

March 4th, 2012 · Dietary Supplements

I am thinking about starting to make my 3 rats food from scratch. Some of the ingredients in the mixes sold where I live are pretty iffy. Also, they refuse to eat everything out of the mix so I know they aren’t getting any of the vitamins and minerals they need.
I was thinking about doing a grain mix with a high quality dog kibble as well as fresh fruits and vegetables.
Does anyone have personal experience with this?

List of Fruits & Vegetables That Help Promote Hair Growth?

March 2nd, 2012 · Dietary Supplements

Hai peoples out there :3

I want to ask are these information real : o

List of Fruits & Vegetables That Help Promote Hair Growth

Your body requires protein, complex carbohydrates, healthy fat, vitamins and minerals to grow strong, shiny hair. Inadequate nutrition, extreme dieting or illness may result in hair loss. Your body prioritizes nutrients, with vital organs and systems receiving vitamins and minerals first, and then hair follicles and fingernails receiving whatever nutrients are left. Eating a well-balanced diet high in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, B and C, and iron will help you grow luxurious locks.
Carrots

Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, which may keep your scalp healthy — leading to well-conditioned shiny hair, according to Good Housekeeping. Try snacking on carrots and hummus for a healthy dose of protein, monounsaturated fat and complex carbohydrates.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits contain inositol, a type of sugar related to glucose, also known as vitamin Bh. Not only does inositol lower cholesterol and help your body break down fats, it also stops hair thinning and may protect against hair loss.
Dark Leafy Green Vegetables

Spinach, Swiss chard, collards and bok choy all contain vitamins A and C, which help your body produce sebum. Sebum, an oily substance produced by hair follicles, acts as a natural conditioner for your hair. These vegetables also have calcium and iron, two minerals needed for hair growth.
Red Bell Peppers

One red bell pepper contains more vitamin C than a cup of orange juice. Eat the pepper raw, as cooking destroys some of the nutrient content, states the University of Maine. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which increases circulation to the scalp and promotes hair growth.
Avocados

Avocados are a good source of vitamin E, which is important for healthy hair growth, according to Holistic Online. Other sources of vitamin E include olive oil, vegetable oils, nuts and seeds.
Cherry Juice

Cherry juice is a rich source of iron. Anemia is a frequent cause of hair loss, so ensuring your diet contains adequate amounts of iron may prevent anemia. Dark leafy green vegetables, dates, raisins and dried fruits are also high in iron.
Berries

Blueberries, raspberries and cranberries contain powerful antioxidants which promote hair growth by increasing circulation to the scalp. The dark pigmentation in these berries comes from healthy bioflavonoids, rich in vitamin C.

Thank you for your reply in advance :3

What's the difference between Potassium Chlorate and Nitrate?

February 7th, 2012 · Minerals Vitamins

This question is only for educational purposes. I’m just curious on how the two differ (Potassium Chlorate and Potassium Nitrate).
I’m guessing Chlorate means a compound of Chlorine and something.. And Nitrate would indicate Nitrogen instead. So, how big of a difference does Chlorate and Nitrate make?

Vitamins and too much vitamin D?

January 22nd, 2012 · Minerals Vitamins

Hello, I don’t know much about vitamins and whatnot. Would it be too much vitamin D for me (6′1 140lbs) if I take a One-a-Day (700 IU 175%) and a teaspoon of Cod Liver Oil (462 IU 116%)? I hear vitamin D is good for you (though I don’t exactly know why). I’m confused as to why the daily values go over 100% as well.

Normal weight young person has high blood sugar?

December 26th, 2011 · Dietary Supplements

It doesn’t make sense. I eat a terrific diet. Only whole grains. Almost no red meat. Tons of fruits and vegetables. Virtually NO fast food (pizza, McDonalds). I am a normal weight and I exercise 4-6 times per week. I lift weights.

So why the heck is my blood sugar reading high? Everything I read about type II diabetes is that it’s caused mostly by overweight and inactivity in older people. I’m really confused and upset about this.

Problems with Water Rentenion?

December 24th, 2011 · Dietary Supplements

I am having problems with water retention, and hoping someone might have a little insight to share.

I have a very healthy lifestyle – daily exercise, approximately 100-120 oz of water a day, diet high in fiber, fruits, vegetables, etc.

Regardless of how much water I drink to flush my system (whether I try to limit or drink my regular amount), I go several weeks at a time with very high retention. I will urinate very little, my fingers get really puffy, I usually get headaches, and strange as it may be, I get really constipated (even with 30-25 grams of fiber a day). The retention isn’t just in my head, as I see a noticeable ‘gain’ on the scale as well.

I have scheduled a doctor’s appointment for this Friday, but am looking for any thoughts that can be shared in the meantime. I am concerned that the doctor won’t do anything because a doctor I saw in the past just told me to increase my water and fiber – which didn’t help even a tiny bit.

Any ideas or thoughts? One last thing to mention . . . both my mother and sister are on water pills from their doctors. So far, nobody has suggested doing the same for me though.

Please can you check my essay about health Than you all in advance?

December 20th, 2011 · Dietary Supplements

A healthy person is often described as someone who has a good diet,
gets lots of exercise, and avoids stress.
What do people do to stay healthy in your country?250 words

Scientists have proved that in order to be physically strong and not ill people should lead a healthy life. Leading a healthy live involves eating more fiber-rich food, regular workout, no addiction to alcohol , smoking, and drugs plus also avoiding stressful situations.
Unfortunately, according to the statistics Russian people do not lead a healthy life and as a result mortality rate is very high in Russia. The most harrowing thing that almost 75 per cent of population are addicted to smoking which can cause a fatal disease such as cancer. Moreover, Russian people are inclined to consume a quite big amount of alcohol which also harms their health.
Russian authorities pursue a police to make the nation more aware about being healthy. There are social advertisements which encourage people to stop smoking and avoid drinking spirits. There are also several campaigns to fight with unhealthy habits. For example, shops are forbidden to sell spirits and cigarettes after 10 p.m. A lot of fitness centers and swimming pools are being build nowadays.
Fortunately, the recent poll carried out among adolescents shows that there is a tendency to improve their fitness and to take care about their health. More and more young people are giving up smoking and take up different sports such as skiing, swimming, and visiting fitness centers.
As for me, I think that I am quite health-conscious. I do not smoke and never drink spirits, most of my diet consists of fruits and vegetables. I often brew green tea and try not to be physically active in one word not to be a couch potato.

Are juice diets safe?

October 17th, 2011 · Dietary Supplements

The ones where you get fresh veggies and fresh fruits and juice them yourself. I want to do one. People say you don’t get protein, but what if you juice vegetables that are high in protein, and if you juice vegetables and fruits that are low (but not too low) in calories, and sugars. Some also say you don’t get the right nutrients but isn’t that the stuff we are supposed to be eating anyway?

Is a diet high in complex carbohydrates a risk factor for diabetes?

October 16th, 2011 · Dietary Supplements

I eat a lot of complex carbohydrates such as whole wheat pasta, brown rice, lentils, etc. My diet is very low in sugar; it mainly consists of these carb sources, vegetables, some fruit, and water. If I’m hitting at or above 100% of the DV for carbohydrates daily, is this a very bad thing for blood sugar levels and will it put me at risk for developing diabetes?

As I said, my diet is very clean and very low in sugar. I exercise daily and have a healthy weight, but I’m concerned about my high carbohydrate intake. Thanks for reading.
